People jetting away to Johannesburg this Easter may find the 11-day Rand Show to be a source of activities during their break in the city.
It begins tomorrow (April 22nd) and runs until May 2nd, which could make it ideal for many people going on South Africa holidays. It will feature a variety of spectacles, including a circus, a display from the country's military and helicopter rides.
Last year, the event attracted 175,000 people, who were able to see 426 different exhibitions. They ranged from consumer trade fairs for companies such as Suzuki to a Bollywood show and a World's Strongest Man contest.
The gala was first held in 1894 and was an agricultural event aimed at farmers. Since then, it has fared against the Boer War and other cultural changes, until it was rejuvenated in 2009 by a change in ownership.
Tickets cost R75 (£7) per person or R40 for people over the age of 65.
