UK entrepreneur unveils Maasai Mara-based accommodation

UK business magnate and head of the Virgin brand, Sir Richard Branson has unveiled new luxury tent accommodation, right in the heart of the Maasai Mara game reserve in Kenya.

The game reserve is undoubtedly one of the most popular destinations for travellers when embarking on holidays to Kenya, and now these trips can be enjoyed in greater style and comfort with the Mahali Mzuri luxury facility operated by Virgin’s Limited Edition division – an exclusive collection of stellar global retreats.

Mahali Mzuri is set to open in the summer and is already taking reservations for its debuting guests. These first visitors will be able to take part in a glamorous camping experience contemporarily referred to as ‘glamping’ and the decision to open the camp during the summer deliberately coincides with the well publicised wildebeest migration season.

The retreat will comprise 12 luxury tents, placed on high ground offering ample views of the wildlife that graze on the plains immediately beneath the distinctively designed tents that offer optimal space and comfort.

With most developments that look to maximise the natural beauty of this particular region of Kenya, there had been fears that so-called over-tourism and ecosystem damage would radiate from the development but Branson has acknowledged these considerations, ensuring a sustainable environment that places limitations on visits while ensuring co-operation with local Maasai communities.

Initial incentives for the accommodation include a free night for those guests who book a four to five night stay before 28th of February and guests have been made aware that high season rates which run from 1st of July to 19th of October are currently priced at $995 and $1,340 per person for double and single occupancies respectively.
