Thailand ‘popular honeymoon destination’

Newlyweds may be keen to jet off to the foreign climes of Thailand to celebrate their nuptials.

Research released by found six per cent of those surveyed are planning a holiday to Thailand for their honeymoon.

This made it the joint-third most popular destination in the world alongside Italy and St Lucia, with only the US and the Maldives attracting more votes.

Average honeymoon expenditure is expected to be £3,250.

Marketing director Ursula Barzey said: "Based on the current economic climate, we wanted to see if the appetite for going abroad for a wedding or honeymoon was increasing, decreasing or remaining flat."

Some 1,600 brides and grooms – planning to get hitched in the next six to 18 months – were questioned as part of the study.

For those who decide to go to Thailand for their honeymoon, the island of Phuket – which is famous for its sandy white beaches – is one location they may want to visit.
