Spotlight: Evening drinks in Durban
Don’t worry; it is not necessary to traipse around the city looking for the perfect spot for drinks as most of the nightlife options are located in the docks area of the city along the Golden Mile.
However, if you wanted to go somewhere else there are also options in Morningside and Westville (although this a bit out of the centre). Durban offers everything from African to Indian infused entertainment, but don’t worry if you’re homesick as they don’t forget some good old western entertainment as well.
Cocktails, cocktails and more cocktails – if you want cocktails then Joe Cool’s is the place for you to visit. It is very beautifully situated on the beach front, so with that view in mind it does not really matter what is on the drinks menu! Luckily, they have seven bars serving up brilliant cocktails and shooters, reasonably priced too – you just can’t lose!
If you’re a fan of music, dancing and just generally having a good time then Tiger Tiger is a place you should visit. It has branches all over South Africa and is generally known for its range of music – that is everything from funky house, electro and then maybe a little bit of old school.
If you want to quench your thirst in between dancing, this club boasts seven bars, and when you need to get a little bit of fresh air Tiger Tiger has a viewing stage where you can see King Park’s Rugby Stadium. Not bad for just a club.
Finally, a highly recommended bar and restaurant is Billy the Bums. Most nights are themed nights, such as ‘Hersday’ on Thursday and ‘Burger and Beer Mondays’ as well as a combination of happy hours and special offers.
There is always some deal to enjoy or party to take part in which is what makes it such a popular and enjoyable spot.
If that hasn’t sold you, then maybe the perfect sunsets that you can view from the bar will tick all the boxes. It is possible to have a quiet drink in the evening, but if you don’t want to party all night, maybe don’t stay too late!
