A series of films are to be screened in the Nyanga township in Cape Town over the coming weeks.
Running until December 11th, the Locshin Cinema Weeks event may interest those on South Africa holidays.
The event is designed to bring cinema to areas that do not usually benefit from it and comes after a pilot project was launched at last year's Bavarian Film Festival.
Among those who have funded the occasion are the City of Cape Town, the Bavarian Government and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town.
It is hoped cinema will be promoted as a form of entertainment, particularly as a family activity.
Should the scheme prove to be successful, there are plans to expand the offering in future years.
It comes after Table Mountain – which overlooks the city of Cape Town – was named as one of the New7Wonders of Nature after a public vote.
