Cape Town is proving to be a popular holiday destination for travellers seeking some winter sun after the tourist board reported strong figures.
Cape Town International Airport has even reported that people are arriving on their South Africa holidays earlier than usual, with a 14 per cent increase in visitors compared to November 2010. This is only going to rise even further, as January and February tend to be the time when Cape Town attracts the most visitors.
The city's attractions have also witnessed a surge in tourism. The V&A Waterfront, a busy harbour with restaurants and shops, recorded more than three million visitors in December alone.
Meanwhile, more than 100,000 people headed up the Table Mountain Cableway to see Cape Town's best-known landmark, and the City Sightseeing Bus has also been a favourite with holidaymakers.
Cape Town Tourism, the city's tourist board, put the unexpected increase in visitors down to TripAdvisor naming the city its number one destination in 2011, as well as Table Mountain becoming one of the new seven wonders of nature.
