Those who head to Cape Town may do so because they want to take advantage of the strong urban experience it offers.
This is because Cape Town Tourism chief executive Mariette du Toit-Helmbold has said those who are going on holidays to South Africa no longer just want to go on safari.
In order to continue to grow, places in the country have to offer tourists something extra to entice them, she added.
"Successful cities of the future will be stand-out urban centres seen as the most liveable and enjoyable places on the planet," Ms du Toit-Hembold observed.
Exploring "new and different cultures" should be one of the main attractions for those destinations trying to attract holidaymakers.
According to Ms du Toit-Hembold, Cape Town has some wonderful attributes and it is important that these are shown off to prospective visitors.
It recently ranked as the number one destination in the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards.
